Satellites: Screens from Outer Spaces announces a benefit to support its 2003 alternative film & video festival. The benefit, entitled Super-8 vs. DV Deathmatch, will take place on October 3rd at 9pm in the new Consolidated Works cinema and will coincide with the 2002 NAMAC Conference.

Sure to be the bloodiest screening of the year! The event promises a no-holds-barred evening of direct confrontation and conflagration between small-gauge filmmakers and digitalvideomakers, the two alternate low-budget options for moviemaking. Five minute segments of films and videos go head-to-head in five rounds of competition alternating between film and digital projection. In addition, color commentary will be provided for film by Jamie Hook (Pinwheel Pictures), and for video by Alex Mayer (Galaxaco Communications). Additional contributors to this event include: Consolidated Works, 911 Media Arts, Wiggly World Studios, Seattle Underground Film Festival and Emerald Reels. Music will be provided by DJ Squidleedee.

In a related development, the 2003 Satellites: Screens from Outer Spaces festival will take place in April, rather than June as it has in past. The decision to move the Satellites festival to an earlier date in the Spring was made by participating organizations in order to better solidify the identity of the festival. In addition, a single Satellites community-wide film & video event will also be organized for the first week of June to commemorate Satellites’ origins.
